Abstract :
Anenhancedelement-freeGalerkin(EFG)methodwithenhancementfunctionsisproposedtoimprovethesolutionaccuracyforlinearelasticfractureproblem.TheenhancementfunctionsareaddedtotheconventionalEFGapproximationfortheimplicitdescriptionofnear-tipfield.Thediscontinuityofcracksurfaceisefficientlymodeledbyintroducingadiscontinuityfunction.Essentialboundaryconditionsareenforcedwiththepenaltymethodandacouplingwithfiniteelement.Theproposedmethodmodelsthecrackgrowthimplicitlywithoutnodeoperationsothattheinitialnodearrangementisnotmodifieduntiltheendofanalysis.Numericalexamplesforvariouscrackproblemsshowtherobustnessoftheproposedmethodbyexaminingthestressintensityfactor,near-tipstressfieldanderrors.
