Abstract :
Extensive,large-amplitudevibrationtestsofapile-supportedstructureinaliquefiablesanddeposithavebeenperformedatalarge-scaleminingsite.Groundmotionsfromlarge-scaleblastingoperationswereusedasexcitationforcesforvibrationtests.Asimplepile-supportedstructurewasconstructedinanexcavated3m-deeppit.Thetestpitwasbackfilledwith100%water-saturatedcleanuniformsand.Accelerationsweremeasuredonthepile-supportedstructure,inthesandinthetestpit,andintheadjacentfreefield.Excessporewaterpressuresinthetestpitandstrainsofonepilewerealsomeasured. Vibrationtestswereperformedwithsixdifferentlevelsofinputmotions.Themaximumhorizontalaccelerationrecordedattheadjacentgroundsurfacevariedfrom20Galsto1353Gals.Thesealternationsofaccelerationprovideddifferentdegreesofliquefactioninthetestpit.Sandboilingphenomenawereobservedinthetestpitwithlargerinputmotions.Thispaperoutlinesvibrationtestsandinvestigatesthetestresults
