Abstract :
Acouplednumericalmodelbasedontheshallow-waterequationsisemployedtosimulatetheNihonkai-ChubuEarthquakeTsunamieventwhichoccurredin1983.Themodelconsistsofatransoceanicpropagationandaninundationmodelbothdescribedbyfinitedifferencemethods.Aspecialmovingboundarytreatmentisimplementedintheinundationmodeltotrackaccuratelyatransientmotionofshoreline.Maximumrun-upheightsalongtheEasternCoastlineoftheKoreanPeninsulaarepredictedandcomparedtofieldmeasurements.Inparticular,themaximumrun-upheightattheUlchinNuclearPowerPlantisestimatedandcomparedtotheobservedheighttoanalyzethesafetyofthePlant.Althoughthenumericalmodelslightlyoverestimatesthemaximumrun-upheights,themodelstillprovidesreasonablepredictions.
