    Inordertopreventthecontainmentandothersafetyrelevantcomponentsfromincurringseriousdamagecausedbyadetonationofthehydrogen/air-mixturegeneratedduringasevereaccidentinlightwaterreactors(LWR)passiveautocatalyticrecombiners(PAR)areusedforhydrogenremovalinanincreasingnumberofEuropeanplants.Thesedevicesmakeuseofthefactthathydrogenandoxygenreactexothermallyoncatalyticsurfacesgeneratingsteamandheat.
