Abstract
Thelimitloadisanimportantinputparameterinengineeringdefect-assessmentproceduresandstrengthdesign.Inthepresentwork,atotalof100differentpipingbranchjunctionmodelsforthelimitloadcalculationwereperformedundercombinedinternalpressureandmomentsinuseofnon-linearfiniteelement(FE)method.Threedifferentexistingaccumulationrulesforlimitload,i.e.,linearequation,parabolicequationandquadraticequationwerediscussedonthebasisofFEresults.Anovellimitloadsolutionwasdevelopedbasedondetailedthree-dimensionalFElimitanalyseswhichaccommodatedthegeometricalparameterinfluence,togetherwithanalyticalsolutionsbasedonequilibriumstressfields.Finally,sixexperimentalresultswereprovidedtojustifythepresentedequation.AccordingtotheFElimitanalysis,limitloadinteractionofthepipingteesundercombinedpressureandmomentshasarelationshipwiththegeometricalparameters,especiallywiththediameterratiod/D.Thepredictedlimitloadsfromthepresentedformulaareveryclosetotheexperimentaldata.Theresultinglimitloadsolutionisgiveninaclosedform,andthuscanbeeasilyusedinpractice.
