Abstract :
Thetransientvelocityandthermalfieldsinacompositetwomaterialssystem(solid–liquid),withsimultaneousfreezingandmeltingprocess,arecalculated.ThefluidmotionandenergyequationsaresolvedbytheSpectralElementmethod.Twocasesarestudied,inthefirstonethenaturalconvectiononlyappearsinthemoltensolid,whereasinthesecondcase,theconvectionalsoappearsintheliquidmaterial.Therateofgrowthofthephasechangefrontsisalsopredicted.Forshorttimesofthetransientprocess,thenumericalcomputationsaresuccessfullycomparedwiththeexactsolutionoftheone-dimensional,heatconductionproblem.
