Abstract :
Thereactivitycontrolsystemofthehightemperatureengineeringtestreactor(HTTR)consistsofacontrolrodsystemandareserveshutdownsystem.Duringnormaloperation,reactivityiscontrolledbythecontrolrodsystem,whichconsistsof32controlrods(16pairs)and16controlroddrivemechanismsexceptforthecasewhenthecentercontrolrodsareremovedtoperformanirradiationtest.Inanunlikelyeventthatthecontrolrodsfailtobeinserted,reserveshutdownsystemisprovidedtoinsertpelletsofneutron-absorbingmaterialintothecore.
Alloy800Hischosenforthemetallicpartsofthecontrolrods.Becausethemaximumtemperatureofthecontrolrodsreachesabout900°Catreactorscrams,structuraldesignguidelineanddesignmaterialdataonAlloy800Hareneededforthehightemperaturedesign.ThedesignguidelinefortheHTTRcontrolrodisbasedonASMECodeCaseN-47-21.Designmaterialdataisalsodeterminedandshowninthispaper.Observingtheguideline,temperatureandstressanalysiswereconducted;itcanbeconfirmedthatthetargetlifeofthecontrolrodsof5yearscanbeachieved.
Varioustestsconductedforthecontrolrodsystemandthereserveshutdownsystemarealsodescribed.
