  • Abstract
    Aprimary-piperuptureaccidentisoneofthedesign-basisaccidentsofahigh-temperaturegas-cooledreactor(HTGR).Whentheprimary-piperuptureaccidentoccurs,airisexpectedtoenterthereactorcorefromthebreachandoxidizein-coregraphitestructures.Inordertopredictoranalyzetheprocessofairingressduringtheprimary-piperuptureaccidentofHTGRs,itisveryimportanttodevelopcomputerprogramsandtovalidatethembyexperiments.Thispaperdescribesacomputerprogram,whichisnamedFLOWGR,developedtoanalyzetheprocessofairingressduringthefirststageoftheprimary-piperuptureaccident,inthecaseoftheprimary-pipeattachedtothebottompartofthereactorcore.Anoverviewofthemethodisgivenforthepreventionofairingressintothereactorduringtheprimary-piperuptureaccident.Thenumericalresultsareingoodagreementwiththeexperimentalonesregardingthedensityofthegasmixture,theconcentrationofeachgasspeciesproducedbythegraphite-oxidationreactionandtheonsettimeofthenaturalcirculationofair.Theexperimentalresultsshowthatthenaturalcirculationflowofairduringtheaccidentcanbecontrolledbythemethodofheliumgasinjectionintothereactorpressurevessel.
