Abstract
JAERIconductedthesafetyevaluationoftheHTTRconsideringvariouscharacteristicsoftheHTGRinordertoconfirmtheadequacyofsafetyinalloperationalstates.Inthedepressurizationaccidentcausedbyacoaxialdoubleprimarypiperupture,airingressfromtherupturedpipeoxidizesgraphiteblocksandfuelinthecore.ItisauniqueaccidentonlyhappenedinHTGRs.JAERIestablishedanevaluationprocedureanddevelopedanalyticaltoolstoevaluatethetransientbehaviorduringthedepressurizationaccident,especially,oxidationofthecoreandfissionproductreleaseintotheenvironment.Inaregulatoryreview,thesafetyevaluationprocedureandresultsofthedepressurizationaccidentwerethoroughlydiscussedincludingthenecessityofthecontainmentvesseltopreventairingress.Theregulatoryauthorizedthatreactorsafetywasensuredinalloff-normalstatesincludingthedepressurizationaccident.TheevaluationprocedureandevaluationtoolswillbeapplicabletothesafetyevaluationoffutureJapaneseHTGRs.
