  • Abstract
    TheHighTemperatureEngineeringTestReactor(HTTR)constructedbyJapanAtomicEnergyResearchInstitute(JAERI)isagraphite-moderatedandhelium-gas-cooledreactorwithprismaticfuelelementsofhexagonalblocks.ThereactorinternalstructuresoftheHTTRaremainlymadeupofgraphitecomponents.Aswellknown,thegraphiteisabrittlematerialandtherewerenoavailabledesigncriteriaforbrittlematerials.Therefore,JAERIhadtodevelopthedesigncriteriatakingaccountofthebrittlefracturebehavior.Inthispaper,conceptandkeyspecificationofthedevelopedgraphitedesigncriteriaisdescribed,andalsoanoutlineofthequalitycontrolspecifiedinthedesigncriteriaismentioned.
