Abstract
JAERIstarteddesignanddevelopmentofthehightemperaturegascooledreactorwithagasturbineelectricgenerationsystem,theGTHTR300,inApril2001.TheGTHTR300isexpectedtobeanewelectricgenerationsystemintheearly2010s.DesignoriginalitiesoftheGTHTR300areahorizontallymountedhighlyefficientgasturbinesystemandanultimatelysimplifiedsafetysystemsuchasnocontainmentbuildingandnoactiveemergencycorecooling.ThesedesignoriginalitiesareproposedbasedondesignandoperationalexperiencesinconventionalgasturbinesystemsandJapanʹsfirsthightemperaturegascooledreactorHTTRsothatmanyR&Dsarenotrequiredforthedevelopment.Excepttheseoriginaldesignfeatures,devisedcoredesign,fueldesignandplantdesignareadoptedtomeetdesignrequirementsandattainatargetcost.
