Abstract
JAERIisconductingR&DonthepowerconversionsystemoftheGTHTR300plant,inparallelwithplantdesignwork.Thedesignofthepowerconversionsystemisbasedonaregenerative,non-intercooled,closedBraytoncyclewithheliumgasastheworkingfluid.Asingle-shaft,axial-flowturbo-compressorandadirectlycoupledelectricgeneratorrunonmagneticbearings.MajorR&Dissuesforthepowerconversionsystemareaerodynamicperformanceoftheheliumgascompressor,highloadcapacitymagneticbearingsandperformanceofmagneticbearingsupportedrotor,andoperabilityandcontrollabilityoftheclosed-cyclegasturbinesystem.Threetestplansweresetuptoaddressthesesissues,aimingatverifyingthedesignoftheGTHTR300powerconversionsystemandestablishingkeytechnologiesofaclosed-cycleheliumgasturbinesystem.
