Abstract :
Thelocalfailurestrainsofessentialdesignelementsofareactorvesselareinvestigated.Thesizeinfluenceofthestructureisofspecialinterest.Typicalsevereaccidentconditionsincludingelevatedtemperaturesanddynamicloadsareconsidered.
Themainpartofworkconsistsoftestfamilieswithspecimensunderuniaxialandbiaxialload.Withinonetestfamilythespecimengeometryandtheloadconditionsaresimilar,butthesizeisvarieduptoreactordimensions.Specialattentionisgiventogeometrieswithaholeoranotchcausingnon-uniformstressandstraindistributionstypicalforthereactorvessel.Akeyproblemistodeterminethelocalfailurestrain.Heresuitablemethodshadtobedevelopedincludingtheso-called“vanishinggapmethod”,andthe“forgingdiemethod”.Theyarebasedonpost-testgeometricalmeasurementsofthefracturesurfacesandreconstructionsoftherelatedstrainfieldsusingfiniteelementmodels.
