Abstract :
Theassessmentofreactorvesselintegrity(ARVI)projectinvolvedatotalofnineorganizationsfromEuropeandUSA.Theworkconsistedofexperimentsandanalysisdevelopment.ThemodelingactivitiesintheareaofstructuralanalyseswerefocusedonthesupportofEC-FOREVERexperimentsaswellasontheexploitationofthedataobtainedfromthoseexperimentsformodelingofcreepdeformationandthevalidationoftheindustrystructuralcodes.Workwasalsoperformedforextensionofmeltnaturalconvectionanalysestoconsiderationofstratification,andmixing(intheCFDcodes).Othermodelingactivitieswerefor(1)gapcoolingCHFand(2)developingsimplemodelsforsystemcode.Finally,themethodologyanddatawasappliedforthedesignofIVMRsevereaccidentmanagementschemeforVVER-440/213plants.
Theworkwasbrokenupintofivepackages.Theyweredividedintotasks,whichwereperformedbydifferentpartners.ThemajorexperimentalprojectcontinuedwasEC-FOREVERinwhichdatawasobtainedonin-vesselmeltpoolcoolability.InpreviousEC-FOREVERexperimentsdatawasobtainedonmeltpoolnaturalconvectionandlowerheadcreepfailureandrupture.Thoseresultsobtainedwererelatedtothefollowingissues:(1)multiaxialcreeplawsfordifferentvesselsteels,(2)effectsofpenetrations,and(3)modeandlocationoflowerheadfailure.ThetwoEC-FOREVERtestsreportedherearerelatedto(a)theeffectivenessofgapcoolingand(b)wateringressionforinvesselmeltcoolability.Twootherexperimentalprojectswerealsoconducted.OnewastheCOPOexperiments,whichwasconcernedwiththeeffectsofstratificationandmetallayeronthethermalloadsonthelowerheadwallduringmeltpoolconvection.ThesecondexperimentalprojectwasconductedatULPUfacility,whichprovideddataandcorrelationsofCHFduetotheexternalcoolingofthelowerhead.
