Abstract
Thispaperisconcernedwiththepredictionoflimitloadofthepipingbranchjunctionswithcircumferentialcrackunderinternalpressure.Recently,wehavedevelopedanewapproachforpredictingthelimitloadoftwo-cylinderintersectionstructureswithdiameterratiolargerthan0.5,whichhasbeensuccessfullyappliedtodefectfreecasesundervariousloadingconditions.Inthepresentwork,weconsidertheextensionoftheapproachtocovercrackedpipingbranchjunctions.Onthebasisofstressanalysisinthevicinityofintersectionline,aclosedformoflimitloadsolutionforpipingbranchjunctionswithcircumferentialcrackwasdeveloped.Then,36finiteelement(FE)modelsofpipingbranchjunctionwithvariousdimensionsofstructureandcrackwereanalyzedbyusingnonlinearfiniteelementsoftware.ThelimitloadsfromFEanalysisandtheproposedsolutionarecomparedwitheachother.OverallgoodagreementbetweentheestimatedsolutionsandtheFEresultsprovidesconfidenceintheuseoftheproposedformulaefordefectassessmentofpipingbranchjunctionsinpractice.
