Abstract
Itisknownthatelectromagneticflowcouplershavehighefficiency.Infact,anexperimentusingasmall-scaleannulusmodelshowsthatithasthemaximumefficiencyof60%.However,anotherexperimentusingamiddle-scalesectormodelexhibitsthatthemaximumefficiencyislessthan20%.Inordertoanalyzethisdiscrepancy,acomputercodeforsolvingmagnetohydrodynamicflowsisdevelopedandisappliedtotheevaluationoftheseexperiments.Theobtainedresultsshowthattheefficiencyofthesmall-scaleannulusmodelishighasobservedintheexperimentandthelowefficiencyobservedinthemiddle-scalesectormodelisascribedtotheenergylossduetotheeddycurrentarisingintheendsofthemagneticregionandtheelectriccontactresistancebetweenthestainlesssteelductandthecopperbusbar.
