Abstract :
Phébus-FPisamulti-nationalcollaborativeprogrammecomprisingfourintegralandonedebrisbedmeltingandfissionproductreleaseexperiments.Theintegralexperimentssimulatetheheat-up,degradationandfissionproductreleaseandtransport,thermalhydraulicresponse,aerosolbehaviourandiodinechemistryinthecontainment.Thetotalprogramme,includinginterpretationeffort,runsfrom1993toca.2007.Theexperimentsdemonstratednewcharacteristicsofcoredegradation,fissionproductandiodinechemistryandaccidentintegralbehaviour.PSIhasparticipatedextensivelythroughplanningsupport,interpretationofdatafromtheexperimentsandanalysesoftheresultstoestablishconfidenceinthemodelsbeingusedforplantapplication.AsignificantpartofthePSIeffortwasperformedtointerpretthesignificanceofsilveriodideasaneffectiveretentionagentundertypicalreactorconditions.Theconclusionsareofaninterimnature,sincethedatareductionandinterpretationarenotyetcomplete.ThesignificanceofthePhébusresultsforplantsafetywillbefullyrealisedonlyaftersuccessfulbenchmarkingofthecomputercodesagainstPhébus,andapplicationtoplantsequences.SuchworkremainsinprogresswithinthePhébusprojectandinvariousnationalprogrammes.
