Abstract :
TheAREVArealisticlargebreakloss-of-coolant-accident(LOCA)analysismethodologyreceivedapprovalbytheUnitedStatesNuclearRegulatoryCommission(USNRC)inApril2003.Themethodologyreferencesthe1988amended10CFR50.46allowingbest-estimatecalculationsofemergencycorecoolingsystemperformance.Inaddition,itconformstothecodescaling,applicability,anduncertainty(CSAU)methodologydevelopedbytheTechnicalProgramGroupfortheUSNRCinthelate1980s;however,italsoincorporatesthenonparametricstatisticalapproachoriginallyincorporatedintheGesellschaftfurAnlagenundReaktorsicherheit(GRS)methodologyforLOCAanalysis.Thispaperprovidesamethodologysummary,lessonslearnedandinsightaboutcurrentLOCAissues.
