Abstract :
Inthisarticle,thetransientconditionoftwo-phasestratifiedgas–liquidflowwasinvestigatedusingnumericalsimulation.Thebasisofthemethodinvolvestheone-spacedimensionaltransientsolutionofthegoverningequationsusingthetwo-fluidmodel.Inthispaper,ananalogybetweentheSIMPLEalgorithmintwo-spacedimensionalsingle-phaseflowandone-spacedimensionaltwo-phasestratifiedflowisestablishedthroughtheapplicationofaspecialalgorithmcreatedtosolvetheconservationequations.Afterthemodelingwasestablishedandjustified,wavegrowthwasexaminedintwo-phasestratifiedflowinahorizontalduct.Theresultswerethencomparedwiththeresultsofthepreviouslypublishedarticles.TheresultsshowthattheclassicalcriterionfortheKelvin–Helmholtz(K–H)instabilityisconsistentwhenthelongwavelengthwithsmallamplitudeisconsidered.Inthiscase(oftheK–Hinstabilitycriterion),thewavelengtheffectonthisinstabilityandpressurevariationonthetwophasesinterfacewasconsistentwithpriorresearchers’correlations.However,asthewavelengthsdecreased,theresultsindicatedthattheK–Hinstabilitycriterionisover-predictedandmustbemodified.Theapplicationofthepresentnumericalsimulationmethodimprovedtheresults,andtheconsistencywiththeanalyticalsolutionishigherincomparisonwithotherwell-knowncomputercodes.
