Abstract :
Traditionally,theflowregimesintwo-phaseflowareconsideredinaglobalsense.However,alocalflowregimeisrequiredtounderstandandmodeltheinterfacialstructurespresentintheflow.Inthiswork,anewapproachhasbeenusedtoidentifybothglobalandlocalflowregimesinatwo-phaseupwardflowina50.8mminternaldiameterpipeunderadiabaticconditions.Inthepresentmethod,thebubblechordlengthdistributions,whicharemeasuredsimultaneouslywiththreedouble-sensorconductivityprobes,havebeenusedtofeedaself-organizedneuralnetwork.Theglobalflowregimeidentificationresultsshowareasonableagreementwiththevisualobservationforalltheflowconditions.Nonetheless,onlythelocalflowregimesmeasuredatthecenterofthepipeagreewiththeglobalones.Thelocalflowregimecombinationsfoundareanalyzedusingtheflowmapinformation,cross-correlationsbetweentheprobesignals,andpreviouscorrelations.Inthisway,itispossibletoidentifyeightdifferentglobalflowregimeconfigurations.
