Abstract :
Amagnetohydrodynamic(MHD)pressuredropwasmeasuredtoestablishthemagneticfieldeffectonanelectricallyconductiveliquidsodiumflowwhichisusedasacoolantinasodiumfastreactor(SFR).TheMHDloopsystemforanexperimentinthisstudyhadarectangulartestchannelofanonmagneticstainlesssteelwithanarrowgap.Theuniformmagneticfieldwasdrivenacrossthechannelandthesodiumflowedinanormaldirectiontoitinthechannelundertheoperatingtemperatureof200°C.ThemeasuredMHDpressuredropwasproportionaltotheflowvelocityandthesquareofthemagneticfluxdensity.ThepressurecoefficientprovidedagoodapproximationfortheoreticallypredictingaMHDpressuredrop.Anuncertaintyanalysisrevealedthatthemeasurementoftheflowvelocitywasaprimaryreasonfortheexperimentalerrors.Agoodagreementwasrevealedbycarryingoutacomparisonbetweenatheoreticalcalculationandexperimentalresultsinspiteofsomedeviations.
