Abstract :
EmploymentofhighCrsteelasamainstructuralmaterialisconsideredasawaytoachieveeconomicalcompetitivenessoffastbreederreactors.VandNbarebelievedtoimprovethehightemperaturestrengthofhighCrsteelsbyprecipitatingascarbidesand/ornitrides,namelyfineMXparticles.However,thelongtermefficiencyandstabilityofsuchprecipitationstrengtheningmechanismsprovidedbythefineMXparticleshavenotbeenclarifiedyet.AseriesoftrialproductscontrollingVandNbcontentsisproducedandmechanicaltestsareconductedtoinvestigatetheeffectoftheseelementsonthemechanicalpropertiesandthelongtermstabilityoftheMXstrengtheningmechanism.Beforeandafteralongtermagingprocess,metallurgicalexaminationsandquantitativeanalysesareconductedtoinvestigatetheeffectoftheseelementsonmicrostructureevolutions.Basedontheseresults,thelongtermefficiencyandstabilityofthestrengtheningmechanismsprovidedbythefineMXparticlesarediscussed.HigherstrengthandlowerductilityareobtainedwiththeincreasesofVandNbcontents,althoughtheinfluenceofNbcontenttendstobesaturatedatabout0.01mass%.MXdoesnotgrowandanynewprecipitatescannotbeobservedafteragingat873Kfor6000h.Therefore,itisexpectedthatMXisstableafteragingat823Kforapproximately167,000hbasedonLarson-Millerparameter.
