Abstract
TheVATT-02experiment,performedatVattenfall,Sweden,witha1/5th-scalemodelofa3-loopPWRpressurevessel,hasbeensimulatedwiththecomputationalfluiddynamics(CFD)codeCFX-5atPSI,Switzerland.ThesimulationswereinitiallypartoftheFLOMIX-REU5thFrameworkProgramme,aimedatprovidingvalidationdatapriortoCFDcodesbeingusedtomodelfull-sizenuclearvessels.ThesestudieswereextendedatPSItoexaminemesheffects.Steady-statevelocitiesandtransientboronconcentrationdistributionswereplotted,andtheirsensitivitytodifferentCFDmodelsandmeshrefinementexamined.Steady-statevelocitiesinthedowncomerwerenotingoodagreementwithexperimentatallinstrumentationlocations,but,nevertheless,predictedtransientborondistributionanditsminimumconcentrationatthecoreinletwereclosetothemeasureddata.Usefulconclusionscouldbedrawnforapplicationtofullreactorsize.
