Abstract :
Inordertodeterminetheriskassociatedwiththepresenceofhydrogeninanuclearpowerplantcontainmentduringahypotheticalsevereaccident,thermalhydrauliccodesareused.Amongstothercodes,NRGusesthecommercialcomputationalfluiddynamicscodeCFX4forthispurpose.Modelstodescribecondensationhavebeenimplementedbyusercoding.Thispaperdescribesthesemodels.Inaddition,anoverviewisgivenofvalidationactivitieswiththeCFX4model.Experimentalresultsfromthefollowingsourceshavebeenused:theKuhncondensationmodel;thePHEBUStestfacility;thePANDAtestfacility;andtheTOSQAN,MISTRA,andTHAItestfacilitieswithintheOECDInternationalStandardProblem47.TheCFX4modelpredictionsarefairlygood.Deviationsoriginateprimarilyfromtheappliedwalltreatment.Severalrecommendationsforfurtherdevelopmentarethereforeproposed.
