Abstract :
Forthesimulationofsevereaccidentpropagationincontainmentsofnuclearpowerplantsitisnecessarytoassesstheefficiencyofsevereaccidentmeasuresunderconditionsasrealisticaspossible.ThereforetheGermancontainmentcodesystemCOCOSYSisunderdevelopmentandvalidationatGRS.Themainobjectiveistoprovideacodesystemonthebasisofmostlymechanisticmodelsforthecomprehensivesimulationofallrelevantprocessesandplantstatesduringsevereaccidentsinthecontainmentoflightwaterreactorscoveringthedesignbasisaccidents,too.COCOSYSisbeingusedfortheidentificationofpossibledeficitsinplantsafety,qualificationofthesafetyreservesoftheentiresystem,assessmentofdamage-limitingormitigatingaccidentmanagementmeasures,supportofintegralcodesinPSAlevel2studiesandsafetyevaluationofnewplants.
