Abstract :
Thepresentstudyisconcernedwiththecharacteristiccoolingflowintheannulargapofaconcretecaskusedtostorespentnuclearfuel.Theconcretecaskiscooledbyanaturalconvectionflowofairpassingthroughaninternalannulargapbetweentheoutsideofacanisterandtheinsideoftheconcretevessel.Theheattransfercoefficientandfrictionlosscoefficientofsuchaflowcouldnotbefullyestimatedevenifweusedexistinghandbooks,becausetheairflowhasuniquefeatures.Simulationexperimentsusingasimplifiedmodelforthecoolingpathhavebeenconductedtoestimatetheheattransfercoefficientandfrictionlosscoefficient.Itwasfoundbythisstudythattheheattransfercoefficientwellagreedwiththepredictionbyanempiricalformulaappliedtothefreeconvection,andthefrictionlosscoefficientwas2–2.5timesthevalueofanisothermalflow.
