Abstract :
In2002theHungarianPaksNPPstartedalarge-scalereconstructionprojecttoupgradeitscoremonitoringsystemcalledVVEROn-LineAnalysis(VERONA).Themainreasonforthereconstructiondecisionwastheplannedreactorthermalpowerincreasefrom1375MWto1485MW(108%),inordertoachieve500MWelectricpoweroutput.Consideringsafetymarginsandoperationlimitsthebasicapproachwastokeepallpreviouslyvalidlimitsat108%,aswell.However,increasedcorepowerandanewtypeoffuelrequiredamoreaccurateandmorefrequentcoreanalysis;thereforemodernizationoftheVERONAsystemwasnecessaryandunavoidable.AtthismomentUnit3andUnit4areservedbythenewsystem.Thereconstructionprojectisplannedtobefullycompletedin2008,whenallPaksunitswillhaveamodernizedcoreanalysissystem,providingstate-of-theartservicesandoperatorsupport.
