Abstract
Inthiswork,shapeoptimizationofawire-wrappedfuelassemblyinaliquidmetalreactorhasbeencarriedoutbycombiningathree-dimensionalReynolds-averagedNavier–StokesanalysiswiththeKrigingmethod,awell-knownmetamodelingtechniqueforoptimization.Sequentialquadraticprogramming(SQP)isusedtosearchtheoptimalpointfromtheconstructedmetamodel.TwogeometricdesignvariablesareselectedfortheoptimizationanddesignspaceissampledusingLatinHypercubeSampling(LHS).Theoptimizationproblemhasbeendefinedasamaximizationoftheobjectivefunction,whichisasalinearcombinationofheattransferandfrictionlossrelatedtermswithaweighingfactor.Theobjectivefunctionvalueismoresensitivetotheratioofthewirespacerdiametertothefuelroddiameterthantotheratioofthewirewrappitchtothefuelroddiameter.Theoptimalvaluesofthedesignvariablesareobtainedbyvaryingtheweightingfactor.
