  • Abstract
    SevereaccidentsSGTRsequencesareidentifiedasmajorcontributorstoriskofPWRs.Theirrelevanceliesinthepotentialradioactivereleasefromreactorcoolantsystemtotheenvironment.Lackofknowledgeonthesourcetermattenuationcapabilityofthesteamgeneratorhasavoideditsconsiderationinprobabilisticsafetystudiesandsevereaccidentmanagementguidelines.Thispaperdescribesaresearchprogrampresentlyunderwayontheaerosolretentiononthetubessurroundingthebreachwithinthesecondarysideofthesteamgeneratorintheabsenceofwater.ItsdevelopmenthasbeeninternationallyframedwithintheEU-SGTRandtheARTISTprogram.Experimentalactivitiesarefocusedonsettingupareliabledatabaseinwhichtheinfluenceofgasmassflowrate,breachconfigurationandparticlenatureintheaerosolretentionareproperlyconsidered.Theoreticalactivitiesareaimedatdevelopingapredictivetool(ARISG)capableofassessingsourcetermattenuationinthescenariowithreasonableaccuracy.Giventhemajorimportanceofjetaerodynamics,3DCFDanalysesarebeingconductedtoassistbothtestinterpretationandmodeldevelopment.
