Abstract :
ThisstudyisconcernedwithstructuralintegrityassessmentofPressureWaterReactorʹs(PWR)fuelrodsunderpellet–claddinginteraction(PCI)loadingcondition.AnimportantexperimentalandresearchcooperativeprogrambetweenEDF,AREVA-NPandtheAtomicEnergyCommissionCEAisachievedinordertogetabetterunderstandingofthemechanismspossiblyleadingtoPCIfailure,aswellastoqualifyaPCIresistantroddesign.Theobjectivesofthisworkare:first,toimprovetheunderstandingofthepelletmechanicalpropertiesimpactoncladdinglocalloadingwith3Dsimulationsresults,andsecond,toproposeanewphenomenologicalrupturecriterionforabetterassessmentofthefailurerisk.
