Abstract :
Thethermal-hydraulicstabilityofauniformlyheatedchannelatsupercriticalwaterpressurehasbeeninvestigatedtohelpunderstandthesysteminstabilityphenomenawhichmayoccurinsupercriticalwaternuclearreactors(SCWRs).Wehaveextendedthemodelingapproachoftenusedforthestabilityanalysisofphasechangesystemstosupercriticalpressureoperationconditionsandhavedevelopedrigorousnewnon-dimensionalgroupsforthestabilitymaps.Wehavealsoshownthatwhiledensity-waveoscillations(DWO)canoccur,Ledineggexcursiveinstabilitiesandpressuredroposcillations(PDO)willnotoccurinsupercriticalwatersystems.Thelinearstabilitycharacteristicsofatypicaluniformlyheatedchannelwerecomputedbyevaluatingtheeigenvaluesofaone-dimensionalmodel.Ananalysisofnon-linearinstabilityphenomenawasalsoperformedinthetimedomainandthedynamicbifurcationswereevaluated.
