Abstract :
Anewsteamdryerforextendedpowerupratedconditions,basedonadesignwithprovenperformancerecord,hasbeendesignedbyWestinghousewithperformancecharacteristicsmeetingallutilityrequirements.Extensiveuseofcomputationalfluiddynamics(CFDs)hasbeenmadetodesignthenewdryerintendedforplantsoftheBWR3000-type.Inadditiontonumericalsimulations,theanalysesrelyonpreviousknowledge,acquiredfromexperimentalworkonsteamflowcharacteristicsintheBWR3000withitsasymmetricallyplacedsteamlinenozzles.Thenewdesignisexpectedtobothdecreasevibrationlevelsinthesteamlinesandtosolveawater-levelmeasurementproblem.Anextensiveexperimentalverificationofthenewdesigniscurrentlyinprogress.
