Abstract :
Acomparativestudyhasbeenperformedforneutronicanalysisofhighlyenrichedinuranium(HEU)andpotentiallowenrichedinuranium(LEU)coresforthePakistanResearchReactor-2(PARR-2)takenasatypicalminiatureneutronsourcereactor(MNSR)system.ThegroupconstantgenerationhasbeencarriedoutusingtransporttheorycodeWIMS-D4andadetailedfive-groupRZ-modelhasbeenusedintheCITATIONcodeformultigroupdiffusiontheoryanalysis.Theneutronicanalysisofthe90%HEUreferenceandpotentialLEUalternative:UO2,U3Si2andU9Mo,coreshasbeencarriedoutyielding11%,20.7%and14.25%enrichmentswithcorrespondingvaluesofexcessreactivity:4.33,4.30and4.07mk.TheseresultshavebeenfoundingoodagreementwithrecentlyreportedMonteCarlo-basedtransporttheorycalculations.Thediffusiontheory-basedcalculatedvaluesofthermalfluxprofilesforaxialaswellasforradialdirectionshavebeenfoundtoagreewellwiththecorrespondingexperimentalmeasurements.TheUO2-basedLEUcorehasbeenfoundhavingfluxspectrumclosesttothereferencecorewhileU9Mocorehassignificantlyharderfluxspectrumatirradiationsite.
