Abstract :
Attempts were successfully made to prepare Mo–0.6Ti–0.2Zr–0.02C alloy tube by applying powder metallurgical (P/M) processing sequences. A mechanical alloying technique was adopted to prepare the alloy powder using planetary ball milling. SEM and XRD analyses were carried out to characterize the metal (Mo) and the alloy powder. Green tubes from the alloy powder were prepared by cold isostatic pressing (CIP) using the specially designed silicone rubber moulds. Sintering at 1800 °C under vacuum followed by machining produced the alloy tube of about 97% theoretical density. Sintered specimens were analysed by SEM and EDS. Electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD) studies showed the formation of equiaxed grain structure in the sintered alloy. TEM analysis revealed the presence of nano size carbides in the molybdenum matrix.
