Abstract :
Inthepresentwork,thesteadyapproximationforacceleratinganddeceleratingflowsthroughtubebanksisdiscussed.Withthispurpose,theexperimentalstudyofvelocityandpressurefluctuationsoftransientturbulentcross-flowinatubebankwithsquarearrangementandapitch-to-diameterratioof1.26isperformed.TheReynoldsnumberatsteady-stateflow,computedwiththetubediameterandtheflowvelocityinthenarrowgapbetweenthetubes,is8×104.Airistheworkingfluid.Theacceleratinganddeceleratingtransientsareobtainedbymeansofstartandstopofthecentrifugalblower.Waveletandwaveletpacketmultiresolutionanalysiswereappliedtodecomposethesignalinfrequencyintervals,usingDaubechies20waveletandscalefunctions,thusallowingtheanalysisofphenomenainatime–frequencydomain.Thecontinuouswavelettransformwasalsoapplied,usingtheMorletfunction.Thesignalsinthesteadystate,whichpresentedabistablebehavior,wereseparatedintwomodesandanalyzedwithusualstatistictools.Theresultswerecomparedwiththesteady-stateassumption,demonstratingtheabilityofwaveletsforanalyzingtimevaryingsignals.
