Abstract
Itiscommonlyrequiredthatsteamgeneratortubeswall-thinnedinexcessof40%shouldbeplugged.However,thepluggingcriteriaareknowntobetooconservativeforsomelocationsandtypesofdefectsanditsapplicationisconfinedtoasinglecrack.Inthepreviousstudy,acrackcoalescencemodelapplicabletosteamgeneratortubeswithtwocollinearaxialthrough-wallcrackswasproposedandacoalescenceevaluationdiagramwasdevelopedwhichcanbeusedtodeterminewhethertheadjacentcracksdetectedbyNDEcoalesceornot.Inthispaper,atotalof9localfailuremodelsincludingflowstressmodel,necking-basedmodel,stress-basedmodel,reactionforcemodelandplasticzonecontactmodelwereintroducedtodeterminetheoptimumlocalfailuremodel.Plasticcollapsetestsandfiniteelementanalysesusingthinplateswithtwocollinearthrough-wallcrackswereperformedfortheselectionoftheoptimumlocalfailuremodel.Bycomparingthetestresultswiththepredictionresultsobtainedfromlocalfailuremodels,thereactionforcemodelandplasticzonecontactmodelweredeterminedastheoptimumlocalfailuremodels.
