Abstract
Thepurposeofthisstudyistoevaluatetheperformanceofapassivecorecoolingsystem(PCCS)withpassiveinjectionduringthecold-legsmallbreakloss-of-coolantaccidents(SBLOCAs)experimentsconductedattheInstituteofNuclearEnergyResearch(INER)IntegralSystemTest(IIST)facility.Fourtestswereperformedsimulatingbreaksizesof0.2–2%(approximatelycorrespondingto1.25–4″breaksforareferencednuclearpowerplant)atcold-legforassessingthePCCScapabilityinaccidentmanagement.Thekeythermal–hydraulicphenomenatocoreheatremovalforPCCSareobservedanddiscussed.TheexperimentalresultsshowthatthePCCShassuccessfullyprovidedacontinuousremovalofcoreheatandalongtermcorecoolingcanbereachedforallcasesofSBLOCA.
