Abstract :
Thecompressivestrengthofconcreteisusedasthemostbasicandimportantmaterialpropertywhenreinforcedconcretestructuresaredesigned.Ithasbecomeaproblemtousethisvalue,however,becausethecontrolspecimensizesandshapesmaybedifferentfromcountrytocountry.
Inthisstudy,theeffectofspecimensizes,specimenshapes,andplacementdirectionsoncompressivestrengthofconcretespecimenswasexperimentallyinvestigatedbasedonfracturemechanics.ExperimentsfortheModeIfailurewerecarriedoutbyusingcylinder,cube,andprismspecimens.Thetestresultsarecurve-fittedusingleastsquaremethod(LSM)toobtainthenewparametersforthemodifiedsizeeffectlaw(MSEL).Theanalysisresultsshowthattheeffectofspecimensizes,specimenshapes,andplacementdirectionsonultimatestrengthispresent.Inaddition,correlationsbetweencompressivestrengthswithsize,shape,andplacementdirectionofthespecimenareinvestigated.
