Abstract :
IntheframeworkofR&DonsevereaccidentsforPWRs,definitionofmitigationmeansforcoolingofthemoltencoreafteravesselmelt-throughisofutmostimportance.Inthecaseofspreading-basedconcepts,theTHEMAcode,whichconsidersintegratedbalanceequationsoverthefluiddepth,aimsatpredictingthespreadingextentofnon-eutecticmixturesunderdefinedinletconditions(pouringrate,temperatureandcomposition).Inthisfirstpart,themodelsandtheassessmentstrategyofthecodearepresented.Thesatisfactoryrunningofthemainmoduliofthecodeisthenverifiedbycomparingthenumericalresultsagainstknownsolutionsofbasicproblems:dambreakproblem,conductionwithorwithoutmeltinginthebasemat,crustformationkineticsonaconstantor“free”bottomplatetemperature.
