Abstract :
FramatomeANPisdevelopingaveryhightemperaturereactor(VHTR),relyingonitspreviousexperiencewithhightemperaturereactorconcepts,fromitsparticipationintheMODULandtheGT-MHRdesigns.Whilebeingamajoractorinthenuclearreactorbusinesswithprovenlightwatertechnology,AREVAwishestobereadytomeetthenewchallengescallingforsmallgridrequirements,hightemperatureprocessheatandcogeneration.TheFramatomeANPVHTRdesignforelectricityproductionisbasedonanindirectcyclecoupledtoan“off-the-shelf”combinedcyclegasturbine.AlthoughdirectcycleHTRsarebeingpromotedfortheirhighefficiency,preliminaryevaluationsshowthattheFramatomeANPdesignefficiencyisonparwithadirectcyclewhileavoidingpowergenerationsystem(PGS)developmentsandkeepingthePGScontaminationfree.Moreover,thenuclearheatsourceoftheindirectcyclecouldalsobeusedtomeettheheatsuppliesfromastandarddesignformultipleapplications.
