Abstract :
TheR&Dofsphericalfuelelementsforthe10MWhightemperaturegas-cooledreactor(HTR-10)startedin1986inChina.Aprocessknownascoldquasi-isostaticmoldingwasusedformanufacturingsphericalfuelelements,andabout20,540sphericalfuelelementswereproducedin2000and2001.Fabricationtechnologyandgraphitematrixmaterialswereinvestigatedandoptimized.Coldpropertiesofthesphericalfuelelementsmetthedesignspecifications.Themeanfreeuraniumfractionof44batcheswas4.57×10−5.In-pileirradiationtestresultsshowedthatirradiationdidnotleadtoapparentchangeinlineardimensional,geometricaldensity,porosityandstrengthofmatrixgraphitesamples.Nocracksandblisterswereobservedinsphericalfuelelements.ThisindicatedthatmatrixgraphiteandsphericalfuelelementsofHTR-10mettherequirementofdesignspecifications.
