Abstract :
ANuclearPowerProjectisbeingset-upatKudanKulaminthestateofTamilNadu,IndiaincollaborationwiththeRussianFederation.Theprojectcomprisesoftwounitseachof1000MWeVVERtypereactor.ThedesignoftheplantandsupplyofallthemajorequipmentisinthescopeoftheRussianFederationwhiledevelopmentofinfrastructureandprojectconstructionisinIndianscopeofworks.TheVVER(VersionV-412)reactorthatisunderconstructionatKudanKulamsiteisanadvancedPWR,whichincorporatesallthefeaturesofamodernPWRasperthecurrentRussian,WesternandIAEAstandards.TheKudanKulamsiteinthesouthernIndianstateofTamilNaduwasoneamongtheseveralsitesevaluatedbytheSiteSelectionCommittee,whichclearedKudanKulamsiteforsettingupaninstalledcapacityupto6000MWe.Thedesign,constructionandoperationoftheplantmeetstheregulatoryandlicensingrequirementsofRussianregulatorybody“RTN”asalsoIndiaʹsAtomicEnergyRegulatoryBoard.ThesupplyoftheequipmentfromtheRussianFederationisonscheduleandtheprojectconstructionworkbyvariousIndianagenciesisalsoaheadofschedule.ThetwounitsofKudanKulamNuclearPowerProject(KKNPP)arescheduledtoachievefirstcriticalityintheyear2007–2008.Thepaperdiscussesvariousdesignfeatures,projectconstructionandmanagementaspects.
