  • Abstract
    Theobjectiveofthisstudyistodemonstratethatacondition-monitoringsystembasedonacousticemission(AE)detectioncanprovidetimelydetectionofcheckvalvedegradationandserviceagingsothatmaintenanceorreplacementcanbepreformedpriortothelossofsafetyfunction.Thisresearchisfocusedontheinvestigationandunderstandingofthecapabilityoftheacousticemissiontechniquetoprovidediagnosticinformationoncheckvalvefailures. AEtestingforacheckvalveundercontrolledflowloopconditionswasperformedtodetectandvalvedegradationsuchaswearandleakageduetoforeignobjectinterference.ItisclearlydemonstratedthatthedistinctionofdifferenttypesoffailureweresuccessfulbysystematicallyanalyzingthecharacteristicsofvariousAEparameters.
