Transientexperimentsfromthethermal-hydraulicADSleadbismuthloop(TALL)andcomparativeTRAC/AAAanalysisOriginalResearchArticle

TALLisamedium-sizeexperimentalfacilityconstructedatKTH,tostudythesteady-stateandtransientthermal-hydraulicsperformanceofLBE-cooledreactors,withtheprimarypurposeofsupportingtheEuropeantransmutationdemonstration(ETD)usingLBE-cooledaccelerator-drivensystems(ADS).ThispaperpresentstheresultsoftransientexperimentsperformedontheTALLtestfacility,whoseaimistoprovideadatabaseforvalidationofcomputercodeswhichmaybeusedfortheanalysisofthesafetyofthosesystems.Thispaperalsopresentstheresultsofthepost-testcalculations,carriedoutatPSI,usingtheTRAC/AAAcode.Thetransientexperimentsperformedincludethelossofheatsink,thelossofpump,thelossofbothprimaryandsecondaryflows,overpower,overcooling,heatertrip,andtheoperationaltransientsofstart-upandshut-down.TheexperimentalresultsshowtheexcellentnaturalcirculationperformanceofaLBE-cooledsystemwhichshouldcontributetoagoodsafetyperformance.TheTRAC/AAAcalculationsprovideresultswhichagreewellwiththeexperimentaldata.
