Abstract :
This paper was motivated by the study of lateral dispersion of cholesterol in arteries, where the blood containing cholesterol flows through and past the porous media. It is assumed that the earlier cholesterol deposit has already created the porous media. The problem reduces to solving the flow equations in a porous doubly connected region and in the channel by an exact analysis. Modelling is based on an improved Brinkman model and uses the well-known Beavers and Joseph slip boundary condition at the permeable interface. The velocity distributions in the channel and the porous media are determined. Volume flux of blood, the mass transport of cholesterol to the sides are calculated and an expression for the increase in the radial thickness of the cholesterol deposit is obtained.
