Cutting rectangles avoiding rectangular defects Original Research Article

In the real world (i.e., steel industry) we can find cutting problems where rectangles are to be cut by guillotine cuts from master rectangles such that rectangular defect areas are to be avoided. The classical solution of the maximum empty rectangle problem is often not sufficient for these real world problems. The aim of this paper is therefore to find all usable restricted rectangles and not the maximum empty rectangle only.
