The generalized local instability criterion and approximation method

We study the dynamics of Bianchi IX cosmology in the Jacobi formulation, and we demonstrate the dependence of local (or exponential) instability on the approximation. It is shown how the approximation method can preserve the property of sensitive dependence on the initial conditions—the key ingredient to deterministic chaos.
