Abstract :
An edited and slightly augmented edition of an article written in 1944 by Walter Dickson Jones. Jones describes his career from 1912 until his retirement more than 40 years later. He began in Cleveland, Ohio, as a salesman for the Tabulating Machine Company. This merged with other companies to form the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company (CTR), which 10 years later changed its name to IBM. Jones was the European general manager from 1930 to early 1934 when IBM Europe was headquartered in Paris. He ended his career as chairman of the board of IBM Canada.
