Abstract :
In this paper we determine the fractal dimension of backbone of lysozymes of the bacterium, hen egg white and humans using X-ray data. We determine this dimension of each of the free enzymes as well as one of their complexes with a specific substrate and we compare the results. We notice that the conformational changes of the lysozymes when they react with the substrates or their analoges do not affect the backbone of the proteins. We notice also that the fractal dimensions of lysozyme backbone are almost the same for all of the organisms. This means that the properties of their three-dimensional structures tend to be conserved in the course of evolution
