Signature splitting of tilted-axis rotational states

The signature splitting of the states of rotational bands where the rotation axis is tilted with respect to symmetry axes is described by the quantum tunneling between the two degenerate orientations of the axis. We use the generator coordinate method to calculate the splitting and to compare it with the spectrum of 182Os. This nucleus has a very small signature splitting in the yrast band, and it is predicted to be a tilted-axis rotor.
